In 2022, Dr. Ry Brennan co-founded Amitas LLC, a management and ESG consulting firm that works to assist community-oriented businesses, nonprofits, and local governments with a range of needs, from program evaluation to organizational restructuring. They have led projects to:

  • evaluate reusable coffee cup programs in collaboration with community groups and business partners for the City of Long Beach

  • transition a vegan package-free grocery start-up from a sole proprietorship to a worker self-directed enterprise

  • provide DEI training and assistance to a sustainability nonprofit

  • create an in-house payroll processing system for a young nonprofit

  • draft innovative operating agreements for an evaluation firm that creates an equity-based incentive structure for accomplishing strategic objectives

Service | Central Coast Building Trades-Environment-EJ Alliance

Starting in 2021, Dr. Ry Brennan began facilitating a quarterly strategic planning meeting among building trades unions, environmental, and environmental justice groups on California’s Central Coast. This space helps these organizations coordinate on regional energy projects and discuss policy and organizational changes.

Green Business | Ethikli LLC

From May 2023 to November 2024, Dr. Ry Brennan advised Ethikli LLC, a vegan package-free grocery store operating as a worker self-directed enterprise, in organizational change, strategic planning, and operational efficiency, while also providing mentorship to staff in business fundamentals and consensus decision-making. In addition to wrangling day-to-day tasks from bookkeeping to managing orders, they hosted a workshop series on veganism and sustainable living. During their time at Ethikli, the company realized 40% year-over-year growth in total sales.

Writing | Just Meetings

Inspired by their time time in community organizing, Dr. Ry Brennan co-authored their first manuscript, Just Meetings. The text weaves together ethical philosophy, insights from organizational and decision theory, and their own experiences with nonhierarchical organizing into the first comprehensive and practical guide to consensus decision-making in decades.
